The Association of Bergen Architects

Presents an exhibition called Leif Grung – the man and his work.

The exhibition is a journey into the process, the history and the human behind the leading figure within functionalism in Bergen and the success and the drama that led to his death in 1945. The exhibition gives an insight into the Bergen School with the conflicts that went with it both over the mountains to eastern Norway and in Bergen itself.

The Festival of Architecture

Everyone interested in architecture is invited to a week-long a festival of architecture at the end of September 2011. Place of Change – the Festival of Architecture is the main event of the Year of Architecture. During the festival a variety of activities will take place at Vulkan in Oslo. Put the dates on your calendar!

The festival’s official programme will take place at a special festival arena, a former factory on Aker River, where there will be debates, exhibitions, film showings, launches, meetings, performances, installations, parties, concerts, workshops and architectural production.

VULKAN, OSLO

The Festival of Architecture will take place in an entirely new city district in Oslo called Vulkan. This former industrial area has recently undergone a total transformation and at the opening of the festival emerge as a completely unique centre of culture consisting of the House of Dance, Vulkan Stage, the Westerdal School of Communication and the Bellona Building. Close by are several other institutions such as AHO (the Oslo School of Architecture and Design), KHIO (The Oslo National Academy of the Arts) and DogA (Norwegian Centre for Design and Architecture).

Vulkan was constructed with the very latest within sustainable solutions. The festival venue itself is a former factory building. Visitors can expect a spectacular spatial experience. Accommodation may be obtained at the two new Vulkan hotels. Grünerløkka right across the river offers Oslo’s liveliest nightlife. LPO were the principal architects for the Vulkan development after winning the competition held in 2004. As well as thus project LPO is responsible for the plans for the Bellona Building, the House of Dance, the new bridge workshop (Oxygeno) and the old bridge workshop (the festival arena)
